Dentures and Partials

Man smiling with new dentures from College Hill DentalThe loss of permanent teeth is common for many adults, but there are restorative steps that you can take to improve the look, feel and function of your teeth. The placement of a customized partial or full denture device can make a significant difference. Our staff at College Hill Dental can evaluate your oral health and work with your individual needs to provide the information to help.

Partial Denture

A partial denture is a dental prosthetic designed to replace single and multiple missing teeth. We can replace teeth with a dental bridge that remains permanently in place or with a removable partial denture that clasps around an anchor. Partials are customized to match your teeth both in look and how your teeth come together in the bite.

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge is used to restore missing teeth; it is cemented permanently in place. They can be used to replace a single tooth, or multiple neighboring teeth, as long as there are appropriate anchors to connect to.

Partial Denture

A Partial denture is also used to restore missing teeth; the difference is in how it attaches. Partial dentures are designed to be removable but can be customized to replace randomly distributed teeth from each arch. Partial dentures are customized to match your teeth in size, shape, color and bite.

Full Denture

A full denture is a full set of artificial teeth designed to replace all of the natural teeth on either the lower or upper arch. Patients seek a full denture when they no longer have any healthy teeth remaining. A denture device can provide your facial shape structure, allow you to chew foods, and help with your confidence. Dentures are a complete row of plastic teeth that are set in a pink plastic mold.

For many patients, dentures are loosely held in the mouth with suction or a store-bought adhesive. Patients are advised to remove their denture while they sleep to allow the gum tissue some time to recover, many patients report sore spots from where the denture had shifted and moved when wearing. Dentures can take some time getting used to, but they also provide much-needed benefits. Increasingly, patients are having their denture permanently secured with the assistance of dental implants.

Surgical Implants to Anchor Full and Partial Dentures

We can permanently secure your full or partial denture with the insertion of a dental implant. Implants are a titanium or acrylic rod that we sink into the jawbone. The implant looks very similar to a screw in shape and size with a threaded end and a head to attach a false tooth or denture. The threaded end is placed into the bone and as the bone heals it grows around the implant device bonding the two together for a firm hold. The addition of an implant is a significant change from loose denture or clasps; it allows the patient to have teeth that stay in the mouth firmly, allowing them to resume their regular diet and have confidence in knowing that the teeth will stay in place.
