![]() Avoid Tooth DecayIf you wish to avoid a dental abscess or other potentially harmful dental infection, you need to protect your mouth from tooth decay. This includes regular brushing, flossing, and checkups in our office. You may also want to add a fluoridated mouthwash to your dental hygiene routine in order to further protect your teeth. Practice Good Gum HygieneIt isn't enough to simply focus on your teeth when you are brushing in the morning or evening. You also need to take care to brush along the gumline and floss between the teeth. This is a hotbed of activity for plaque and bacteria, so in order to prevent gum infections that include inflammation, bleeding, and redness, you need to practice good gum hygiene. Drink Fluoridated WaterSure, bottled water may seem convenient, but it doesn't include the fluoride that your teeth need to stay healthy. Fluoride protects the enamel and can prevent cavities, decay, and dental infections. Stick to a municipal water source instead of bottled water. Replace Your Toothbrush RegularlyFailure to change your toothbrush regularly can also pose a problem for your oral health. If the bristles become frayed, you may not be cleaning your teeth adequately, which could lead to decay, infections, and other problems. Additionally, infection-causing bacteria may accumulate on your toothbrush, so changing it regularly is a good way to prevent these bacteria from affecting your mouth. Eat a Healthy Diet Diets high in sugar and carbohydrates are great for the bacteria that cause oral infections. Work hard to eat a healthy diet with minimal amounts of these compounds. Is it time for your next dental checkup? If so, give us a call today. |
