You Need to Make Sure You Prioritize Dental HealthThere are lots and lots of news stories on a daily basis about the importance of maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly. Did you know that maintaining a healthy mouth is just as important as maintaining your healthy body?

You need to know that dental health is just as important to your overall health as the rest of your body? If you don't take care of your teeth and gums, your dental health may start to affect your overall health. Not sure why dental health should be a priority for you? Keep reading to find out more information.

Prioritizing Dental Health

There are several reasons you need to prioritize your dental health. First, if you are not regularly seeing your dentist, you may have problems with your teeth and gums. Over time, you could develop gum disease. We used to think that gum disease affected only your mouth, but research has shown that gum disease leads to other diseases throughout your body. Gum disease causes gum infections, which can spread bacteria all over your body.

People with gum disease are more likely to have heart disease as well. They are also more likely to have strokes than people without gum disease. If you already have a pre-existing condition, such as diabetes, heart disease or rheumatoid arthritis, poor dental hygiene can make these conditions worse.

The Sooner You See Us The Better
Another reason you should make your dental health a priority is that your dentist will be able to spot problems before they become worse. For example, many oral cancers, as well as head and neck cancers have a higher cure rate if they are spotted early and can be treated early. Keep in mind that 50,000 people are diagnosed with some form of oral cancer each year. One-third of oral cancer patients die within five years of receiving a diagnosis, so early detection is important.

If you're not sure whether your mouth is as healthy as your body, why not give us a call for an appointment. We would love to talk to you about your dental health!
