Why It Is So Important to Tell Us About Snoring Problems

Why It Is So Important to Tell Us About Snoring ProblemsMany people snore, and many of these same people and their partners believe that snoring isn't that big of a deal. However, it is. Snoring can be an indication of a number of different problems, especially for those who snore every night or who are very heavy snorers.

Of course, it's also no fun for anyone who has to sleep with these snorers! Here are a few of the issues that snoring can indicate and why it's so important that those who do snore talk to us about it. Often, there are dental solutions to snoring!

Your Airway May Be Obstructed

One major issue with snoring is that it may be caused by your airway being obstructed. When this is the case, it means you are actually having difficulty breathing at night. The muscles in your throat may be relaxing too much, causing them to fall down over your airway. It's possible that you're going ten seconds or more without taking a breath.

This can cause your brain to go into a more alert state and cause you to wake up. You may not realize you're waking up so much during the night, but in the morning, you won't feel rested at all.

It's also possible that over time your body will adjust to this issue. You may not wake up as often, but the brain will begin changing how you sleep. Instead of a deep, restful sleep, you'll spend most of the night in a light sleep as the brain anticipates the throat being obstructed. This sleep isn't nearly as restful.

Other Issues
Because you're not getting a good night's sleep, you're going to feel tired all the time. This can lead to making mistakes, not being as responsive, and a number of health issues. Not sleeping well can increase your risk of stroke, raise your blood pressure, and much more.

If you let us know that you have snoring issues, we can see if a dental sleeping appliance is right for you.

These appliances can help keep your airway open at night, reducing or even eliminating your snoring. Call us today to discuss your snoring issues and to make an appointment to see what we can do about them.
