Signs Your Mouth has an Infection other than Pain

Posted on 7/20/2018 by College Hill Dental
Signs Your Mouth has an Infection other than PainOne of the ways your body tells you that something isn't right is through pain. That's why pain is actually good in some cases—it alerts you that something is wrong so you can get help.

But not every problem causes pain. In fact, some infections that occur in the mouth never hurt at all. These infections can become very severe and cause a lot of problems if they're not treated quickly. But if there's no pain, how can you tell you have an infection?

Bad Breath

One common sign that something isn't right with your oral health is bad breath. Having bad breath or halitosis every now and then is common, especially if you eat certain foods. Having chronic bad breath, though, is usually a sign that you have another problem going on.

Sometimes this is an issue we can deal with since it's caused by something wrong in the mouth. Other times, bad breath can actually be a sign of a serious health issue.

Odd Tastes in Your Mouth

Have you noticed that you have a weird, bitter taste in your mouth all the time? That could be another sign of infection. If you've had odd tastes in your mouth and can't think of anything that would account for it, you may want to call us for a consultation.

Increased Sensitivity to Heat or Cold

When you suddenly find that eating or drinking hot or cold things causes you pain in your mouth, you have a problem. It might be an infection, or it could be one of a number of other issues.

No matter what the cause is, you need to call and schedule an appointment as soon as you can. Some infections can be incredibly dangerous and can spread until you get the proper antibiotics. Coming to see us is the first step in dealing with these infections.
